Our Team

Sharon Sanders, RN

Chief Executive Officer

Sharon Sanders, RN, CEO, has worked in almost every area of nursing since earning her degree at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami many years ago. She spent a few years as a Navy nurse during the seventies and then worked in the ER for 15 years at Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA. After leaving the city for a place in the country, she worked in a rural ER for ten years.

Prior to founding ATrain Education with Lauren Robertson and Toni Thompson, Sharon worked as a nursing editor and writer for another online CE company. During her nursing practice she has been certified and educated in multiple ED and trauma related areas such as CEN, TNCC, MICN, CCU, and multiple years of retraining in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NALS. Sharon brings a wealth of clinical, educational, and organizational skills and experience to the ATrain Education team.

Lauren Robertson, BA, MPT

President and Editor-in-Chief

Lauren Robertson founded ATrain Education with Sharon Sanders and Toni Thompson in 2008. She has been in the continuing education business for more than 12 years, having served as CEO and editor-in-chief of another online CE company. She has authored, co-authored, or edited more than 150 continuing education courses for nurses, physical and occupational therapists.

Lauren became a medical writer and editor following 15 years of work as a physical therapist in acute care, home health, and long-term care, specializing in stroke rehab and balance disorders. She also spent 6 years teaching neuroanatomy to physical and occupational therapy assistant students at a college in Santa Rosa, CA.

JoAnn O'Toole, RN, BSN

Nurse Planner and Nursing Editor

JoAnn O'Toole is a nursing editor and writer who works as an ER nurse at a certified stroke center at Kaiser Redwood City in California. Prior to that, she worked for 15 years in the neuroscience department at Kaiser. JoAnn writes and edits courses for ATrain Education to help us ensure compliance with accreditation standards. JoAnn has spent time living and studying in Mexico City and uses her language skills in her current job to facilitate communications with Spanish-speaking clients. JoAnn is the co-author of ATrain's Acute Stroke course.

Judy Johnstone, BA

Managing Editor

Judy Johnstone brings decades of editorial experience in educational publishing to the position of managing editor at ATrain. Her work in corporate publishing culminated with production of major nursing textbooks for Addison-Wesley Nursing Division. More recently, her focus has been online continuing education for nurses and therapists.

Having lived in a medical family for many years, she learned to “talk the talk” and—not incidentally—to spell the words! It was a natural progression to specialize in healthcare issues and she is passionate about maintaining rigorous academic standards in all of ATrain’s offerings.

Jonathan Sachs

Developer

Jonathan Sachs is an independent software developer with 40 years of experience in information technology. He maintains and enhances the software that drives ATrain's web site, and assists in technology planning and technical support. He is also a practicing technical writer, and is a licensed (nonpracticing) patent attorney.
