Zika virus is in the news. This mosquito-borne virus has been fairly well-known in parts of Africa for many decades but its recent emergence in the southern Pacific region and Brazil has caused great concern. Epidimiologists and researchers are working day and night to learn more about this virus, particularly how and why it is spreading so rapidly. Of particularl concern is a possible link between Zika infection and hydrocephalus as well as other neurological disorders. Is its spread helped along global warming? Has the virus mutated?
