This course covers suicide prevention in Kentucky and nationally, including information about warning signs and protective and risk factors. It describes how chronic toxic stress and secondary traumatic stress affects nurses, potentially increasing their risk of suicide. The course also discusses pathways to care for nurses at risk for suicide that addresses screening, assessing, safety planning, referrals, and follow-up. Evidence-informed approaches and best practices to reduce suicide rates are covered, as well as the ethical legal considerations of caring for patients and nurses who are suicidal.
Criteria for Successful Completion
Study the course material, achieve a score of 80% or higher on the post test (the post test can be repeated if a learner scores less than 80%), complete the course evaluation, and pay where required. No partial credit will be awarded.
